The Secretary to the Zamfara State Government (SSG), Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, has commended the peaceful conduct of the local government elections held across the state on Saturday.
The Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC) conducted the polls, marking the first local government election in five years. This followed a period of political tension during the previous APC-led administration, which controversially dissolved democratically elected local government chairmen and councilors in 2021 without conducting fresh elections.
In a statement signed by Suleman Ahmad Tudu, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the SSG, Nakwada expressed his satisfaction with the election process after casting his vote at his polling unit in Gusau. He praised the orderly behavior of the electorate and the professionalism of security personnel deployed to ensure a peaceful election.
“I am satisfied with the peaceful conduct of fellow electorates who exercised their franchise in an orderly manner. Equally, I am impressed with the professionalism of the Police and other election officials,” Nakwada stated.
The SSG also urged party supporters to remain patient as they await the official announcement of results by ZASIEC. He expressed confidence in the victory of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidates, attributing this optimism to the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal.
“While awaiting the official announcement of results by ZASIEC, I call on our party supporters to remain calm and steadfast. I am confident that the candidates of our great party, the PDP, will emerge victorious at the end of the process,” he concluded.
The elections are seen as a test of the PDP-led administration’s ability to restore democratic structures at the grassroots level and ensure the participation of citizens in governance.
