Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal Swears in Newly Elected LG Chairmen

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has inaugurated the newly elected local government chairmen, following their victory in the local government elections held on Saturday.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured all chairmanship and councillorship positions in the elections.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Sunday afternoon, shortly after the chairmen were presented with their certificates of return by the Chairman of the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC), Bala Aliyu Gusau.

In his address to the new chairmen, Governor Lawal commended ZASIEC for conducting a credible, free, and fair election. He reiterated his commitment to local government autonomy, emphasizing that empowering local governments is essential for effective governance and grassroots development.

“I am a strong advocate of local government autonomy and will ensure that our local governments remain autonomous to strengthen their capacity for development,” he stated.

The governor urged the chairmen to align with his administration’s seven-point agenda and collaborate to advance the state’s development goals.

“I urge you to form a formidable team and work with my administration to fulfill our seven-point agenda for the benefit of the state,” Lawal said.

He also emphasized the importance of staying connected to their communities, advising the chairmen to remain in their respective local governments to address local challenges effectively.

“I want you to stay within your domains and attend to the needs of your people,” he added.

Governor Lawal expressed gratitude to the people of Zamfara for their ongoing support and cooperation, assuring them of his dedication to transforming the state.

“I deeply appreciate the unwavering support and cooperation of the people. I am committed to building a new Zamfara where everyone will feel proud to belong,” the governor concluded.
