The Sokoto State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has officially presented its proposed template for implementing the new minimum wage to the state government, following a prior request from the authorities.
The Secretary of the Labour Union in Sokoto, Hamisu Hussain, confirmed the development, noting that the document was submitted to the office of the Deputy Governor, Idris Gobir, on Monday evening.
“We have submitted the template for the new minimum wage, as requested by the state government, to the Deputy Governor’s office. It was delivered after our meeting, and we have everything documented as we await further discussions with the state government,” Hussain stated during an interview on Tuesday.
The submission came on the heels of a Monday meeting between the Labour Union and representatives of the Sokoto State government. During the meeting, the Deputy Governor reiterated the administration’s commitment to adopting the new wage structure in line with federal guidelines.
Hussain emphasized the union’s anticipation of a prompt response from the government, outlining the next steps for implementing the minimum wage policy.
The Labour Union also expressed optimism about the progress of discussions, highlighting the need for swift action to address workers’ demands and improve their welfare.
