Kaduna Refinery to be Back Online by December, Says MD

The Managing Director of Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC), Dr. Mustafa Sugungun, has announced that the ongoing Quick Fix Project for the Kaduna refinery is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

Recall that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) awarded a $741 million contract to South Korea’s Daewoo Engineering & Construction to rehabilitate the refinery. The contract aims to restore production at the 110,000 barrels-per-day facility to at least 60% of its capacity by December 2024.

Speaking during the commissioning of the renovated Rido Community Primary School and a solar-powered borehole in Maraban Rido, Kaduna State, Dr. Sugungun emphasized KRPC’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life in its host communities. The projects were part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

Represented by the Manager of Operations, Mr. Emmanuel Ajiboye, the MD highlighted the economic benefits of the Quick Fix Project. He noted that successful completion would create jobs, boost petty trading, and foster local businesses.

“The school renovation aims to provide a conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers,” he stated, adding that the solar-powered borehole will alleviate water scarcity in the community. He reaffirmed KRPC’s dedication to sustainable development through initiatives such as youth empowerment, rural electrification, periodic medical outreach, and other community-focused programs.

He urged the Rido community to support the ongoing rehabilitation project, stressing that its success would further strengthen the relationship between KRPC and the host communities.

In her remarks, the Head Teacher of Rido Primary School, Mrs. Rachael Aduwak, commended KRPC for their efforts. She also appealed to the company to construct a perimeter fence for the school and furnish classrooms with tables, chairs, and chalkboards. “Most of our students are sitting on bare floors during class hours,” she added.
