NUJ Delegates from Zamfara Involved in Near-Deadly Car Crash

Eleven delegates from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara State Council, narrowly escaped a serious motor accident on Friday while returning from the union’s presidential and executive elections held in Owerri, Imo State.

The accident occurred along the Abuja-Kaduna road. According to Malam Ibrahim Ahmed Gada, the Secretary of the Zamfara NUJ, the incident happened when Comrade Abdurrazak Bello Kaura, the re-elected Zonal Secretary for Zone A, swerved to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle. The vehicle had entered their lane due to ongoing road construction.

“Our bus veered into the opposite lane and scraped against a tanker, causing significant damage to the front and driver’s side,” Gada explained.

Fortunately, all the delegates managed to exit the vehicle safely, sustaining only minor injuries. “We all walked out of the bus by ourselves,” Gada stated, expressing gratitude for their survival.

The damaged bus has since been towed to Kaduna for repairs, where it will remain until reconstruction is complete.
