The Katsina State Government has announced its approval of a new national minimum wage of ₦70,000, set to take effect from December 2024. This decision follows extensive negotiations between government officials and labor unions, marking a significant milestone in labor relations within the state.
The agreement was reached through collaborative discussions involving representatives from the state and local governments, as well as the Local Education Authority. Labor leaders from the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria also participated in the deliberations.
The newly approved wage includes consequential salary adjustments for all categories of workers, ensuring that civil servants across various levels will benefit from the increase. The initiative aims to foster a culture of hard work, honesty, and productivity among public sector employees.
The agreement was officially signed by the Head of Katsina State Civil Service, the Secretary to the State Government, and representatives from the labor unions. This collective effort highlights the state government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare and living standards of its workforce.
