The Cross River State Government and Organised Labour have reached an agreement on the implementation of a ₦70,000 minimum wage.
Reports indicate that the agreement was finalized late on Sunday after an extensive meeting that began on Saturday. The discussions involved key stakeholders, including representatives from the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), and other members of the Minimum Wage Committee set up by Governor Bassey Otu.
Confirming the development via telephone on Sunday night, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Monday Ogbodum, stated, “Truly, we have reached an agreement.”
When asked about the planned industrial action set to begin on Monday, December 2, Ogbodum noted, “There will be a congress tomorrow (Monday) to determine the unions’ next course of action.”
