In the wake of the abduction of eight National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members by suspected bandits in Zamfara State, Nigerians are called upon to support the robust efforts of the NYSC management in securing the prompt release of the hostages.
The group appeals to the kidnappers to release the captives, highlighting that these individuals were in Zamfara to address fundamental social challenges in education, healthcare, and critical services for the betterment of the local population. HURIWA urges the Zamfara government and its citizens to collaborate with the NYSC to ensure the safety of corps members serving in their state.
Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, the national coordinator of HURIWA, expressed concern over the response of Zamfara’s police spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, who indicated a need to verify the incident despite its occurrence within his jurisdiction.
The group emphasizes the proactive stance of NYSC management, noting that they have swiftly implemented strategies, with key staff from Abuja present at the crime scene, working diligently to secure the prompt release of the abducted young Nigerians.
HURIWA states, “Fortunately, the NYSC management is taking decisive action and has promptly activated effective mechanisms to ensure the safe return of the abducted youth, without causing them any physical harm. During these challenging times of pervasive insecurity, Nigerians are urged to pray for and support the NYSC’s efforts in keeping this crucial unifying institution operational.”
Onwubiko asserts, “Undoubtedly, we recognize that the NYSC management is dedicated to the welfare, security, and overall well-being of corps members nationwide. This is particularly vital given the current heightened insecurity and instability across various parts of Nigeria.”
According to credible sources, HURIWA reveals that the victims were abducted on a Saturday while en route from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto, and were heading to Zamfara State. Trustworthy information also suggests that the head of NYSC and key officials are already present on-site, collaborating with relevant authorities and institutions to ensure the safety of these potential corps members.
