The Zamfara State division of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) has initiated a widespread campaign to disconnect illegally connected electricity in the region, stressing that the company will no longer tolerate such unauthorized hookups.
Abdulrasheed Mohammed, the Regional Manager of Operations, conveyed the urgency of this action, highlighting the alarming trend of individuals illicitly tapping into power without compensating the company.
He emphasized the substantial economic strain imposed on the company, as it expends considerable funds maintaining equipment responsible for power distribution.
Mohammed lamented, “Without adequate financial support, any business is bound to fail. Our company now functions with a profit-oriented approach, being a privately operated entity.”
In elaboration, Mohammed detailed the strategic measures devised by the company to take stern action against these unlawful electricity connectors, often claiming affiliation with “NEPA 2.” He clarified that these individuals are not bona fide employees of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company.
However, in response, the leader of the “NEPA 2” group, widely known as Baban Nana, acknowledged their non-affiliation with Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company. He disclosed that some employees of the company engaged their services to facilitate connections and disconnections.
Baban Nana further disclosed that the company’s staff operating in the Tudun Wada area of Gusau, where they are based, assigned them the responsibility due to their inability to cover the entire region. He highlighted that these staff members also provided additional training for the role.
Baban Nana voiced his concerns about KAEDCO’s management, urging them to expand their workforce to encompass the entire state. He underscored that the company should consider compensating them with salaries or allowances for their assistance.
