On Monday night, the Organised Labour reached a consensus to postpone its previously scheduled indefinite strike set to commence on Tuesday.
This decision emerged after more than five hours of discussions between the Federal Government and Labour at the Chief of Staff Conference Room of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, conveyed the outcome of the meeting to State House correspondents, stating, “The NLC and TUC have agreed to defer the planned indefinite nationwide strike for a period of 30 days, initially scheduled to commence on Tuesday, the 3rd of October, 2023.”
Lalong further revealed that the Memorandum of Understanding would be submitted to the relevant court of competent jurisdiction as a consent judgment by the Federal Government within one week.
Nevertheless, NLC President, Joe Ajaero, emphasized that the unions would revisit the agreement if the Federal Government fails to meet their demands.
