Tragedy struck in the peaceful village of Sayaya, located in the Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, as a bandit attack resulted in the loss of five lives and the abduction of five more individuals. The Katsina State Police Command has officially confirmed these distressing events.
According to a statement released by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, the attack occurred in the early hours of November 6, 2023. Armed bandits, numbering several and armed with dangerous weapons, including AK-47 rifles, descended upon Sayaya village. The bandits unleashed chaos by indiscriminately firing their weapons, causing mayhem in the community.
In response to the distress call, law enforcement operatives swiftly mobilized to confront the bandits, engaging them in a fierce gun battle that led to the repelling of the attack. Regrettably, despite their valiant efforts, five individuals lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries during the confrontation.
Adding to the tragedy, the bandits also kidnapped five more people from the village, leaving the community in a state of shock and grief.
The injured victims were immediately rushed to a medical facility for urgent medical attention. The Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and urged the public to come forward with any information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
Efforts are currently underway to secure the safe release of the abducted individuals and bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice. The Katsina State Police Command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the local residents and bringing an end to the threat posed by these criminal elements.
