In an alarming turn of events, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel took forceful action at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) office in Kaduna following the arrest of multiple suspects, including serving military officers, for their alleged involvement in internet-related fraud.
Arriving at the EFCC’s office, located at Number 4, Wurno Road in Kaduna, around 10 am on Friday, the military contingent deployed approximately three Hilux patrol vans and encircled the premises, effectively obstructing EFCC officials from entering or exiting the compound.
The situation escalated into a tense standoff resembling a combat scenario as Air Force soldiers and EFCC-affiliated policemen engaged in a heated confrontation, brandishing weapons amid a shouting match between the federal security agencies.
Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s spokesperson, confirmed to Channels TV that the suspects, which included a Nigerian Army officer and six individuals associated with the NAF, were apprehended earlier in the week in connection with internet-related fraudulent activities.
Oyewale reiterated that these suspects remained under the custody of the commission, pending the conclusion of a thorough investigation and subsequent legal proceedings. He emphasized the EFCC’s commitment to executing its duties as a statutory Federal Government law enforcement agency, highlighting its independence in carrying out official mandates without external coercion from sister agencies.
