In an unexpected turn of events, President Bola Tinubu is set to attend the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference in Maiduguri, scheduled to take place from December 10 to 16 at the Command Guest House. The conference, a significant fixture in the Nigerian Army’s calendar, focuses on the theme “Personnel Motivation for Effective Operational Performance in a Joint Environment,” highlighting its pivotal role in the nation’s security, peace, and stability.
Brig.-Gen. Oyenma Nwachukwu, the Army’s spokesperson, highlighted the conference’s importance, offering the Nigerian Army a platform to assess ongoing operational engagements across the nation’s six geopolitical zones. The aim is to evaluate and review the year’s performances, paving the way for informed decisions to tackle the country’s multifaceted security challenges effectively.
Moreover, this gathering will enable the Chief of Army Staff to engage directly with key figures within the Nigerian Army structure, including General Officers Commanding, Field Commanders, and other senior officers. The discussions aim to provide necessary guidance to enhance the Nigerian Army’s operations and activities. The conference is set to commence on Monday, December 11, 2023.
Additionally, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd), a former Chief of Army Staff, will present a paper titled “Whole of Society Approach and Military Operations in Nigeria.” Notably, the conference will also witness the launch of Nigerian Army Civil Military Cooperation projects intended to bring relief to communities in Borno State.
