As part of the National Social Safety Net Project Scale-Up (NASSP-SU), the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Programme, spearheaded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aims to provide financial relief to vulnerable citizens across the 36 states of the Federation.
The initial disbursement will be sourced from the Economic Shock Response Cash Transfer, followed by the Extended Regular Cash Transfer (ER-CT) for the second tranche.
During the Renewed Hope Enrollment Training for 186 Cash Transfer Facilitators, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, highlighted that NASSP-SU is a crucial part of the government’s reforms in supporting the poor, placing people at the center of development with an emphasis on inclusivity.
Ajigbotafe emphasized that the program’s focus is on aiding impoverished communities, contributing to sustainable socioeconomic development, and alleviating poverty. Under the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer, each beneficiary is set to receive ₦25,000 per circle, totaling ₦75,000 over three payment circles.
For the Extended Regular component, beneficiaries will receive ₦10,000 bi-monthly, amounting to ₦60,000. This financial assistance is expected to significantly impact the lives of recipients, offering support and resilience amid the challenges posed by current economic reforms.
The enrollment process is ongoing across 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state, with over 283,003 households anticipated to benefit.
Ajigbotafe expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support for the underprivileged in the state, acknowledging the various humanitarian programs aimed at assisting the poorest of the poor.
He noted that President Bola Tinubu launched the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer in November 2023 to address economic shocks resulting from government policies, natural disasters, and pandemics affecting livelihoods.
The Federal Government’s initiative, Economic Shock Response – Cash Transfers (ESR-CT), provides ₦25,000 for 283,003 poor and vulnerable households in Lagos state. The beneficiaries, identified through the National Social Register (NSR) and Rapid Response exercise, are part of the government’s commitment to poverty reduction.
The National Programme Manager, National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO), Dr. Michael Ajuluchuku, represented by Zainab Usman, explained that the roll-out leverages the NASSP-SU strategy, aiming to cushion the impact of ongoing economic reforms.
All beneficiaries will receive payments through their bank accounts, with new accounts opened for those without existing ones, ensuring financial inclusion. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Dr. Abiodun Onayele, encouraged the public to check the disclosure list displayed in designated locations within their communities for validation and enrollment.
State Programme Manager, Mrs. Lola Korede Orimogunje, urged beneficiaries to provide their National Identification Numbers (NIN) during the ongoing ten-day enrollment process to meet eligibility criteria for bank account opening, aligning with recent Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) directives.
