Matawalle Criticizes Northern Elders for Anti-Tinubu Remarks

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) is facing backlash for its recent comments about Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential aspirations.

The NEF expressed regret for backing Tinubu in the 2023 elections, stating a preference for a candidate perceived as more inclusive and less controversial.

In response, Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle criticized the NEF, calling them a political burden on the North.

Matawalle emphasized that the NEF does not speak for the entire region and accused them of seeking political relevance at the expense of unity.

He described the NEF as a “political paperweight” embarking on a destructive path for personal gain and lacking positive ideas for the region’s future.

Matawalle also refuted the NEF’s ability to undermine or threaten the president, highlighting Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 election.

He urged the NEF to prioritize unity and cooperation in the North, supporting Tinubu’s presidency for Nigeria’s progress.

Matawalle advised the NEF to reconsider their position and focus on common goals, supporting the current government for the country’s advancement.
