The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has launched a manhunt for Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi State, in connection with alleged economic and financial crimes.
According to an announcement posted on the commission’s official Facebook page, Bello, a 48-year-old Ebira man from Okenne Local Government of Kogi State, is wanted for a case of Money Laundering amounting to N80,246,470,089.88.
His last known address is listed as 9, Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja.
Individuals with any relevant information about Bello’s whereabouts are urged to contact the EFCC.
Earlier, the anti-graft agency had obtained a warrant of arrest from the Federal High Court in Abuja, signaling its intent to arraign the former governor.
During proceedings led by the agency’s legal team, it was emphasized that EFCC operatives were prepared to execute the arrest warrant, even if necessitating the use of force.
Despite attempts by armed personnel to prevent Bello’s arrest at his Abuja residence, the current governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, intervened, escorting Bello away from the scene in his vehicle.
Bello, along with three other suspects, will face 19 counts related to money laundering before Justice Emeka Nwite.
