Kano Deadly Accident: Runaway Truck Crushes 14 Worshippers to Death

On Friday, tragedy struck in Imawa town, Kura Local Government area of Kano State along the Zaria-Kano highway when a truck lost control and killed 14 worshippers.

The incident occurred when the truck ran into worshippers returning from the Juma’at mosque after observing the two rakat Friday prayers.

Kano Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, CC Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the incident, noting that several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

In a statement by his spokesperson, CRC Abdullahi Labaran, the Sector Commander said preliminary reports indicated the truck, with registration number MKA 537 XN, lost control and collided with pedestrians who had just concluded the Friday prayers.

Efforts are ongoing to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the crash. CC Abdullahi expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and emphasized the corps’ commitment to road safety. He urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such avoidable tragedies.

In another development, a building under construction at Dorayi Babba, Gwale Local Government area of Kano collapsed, killing the owner, his child, and several construction workers.

The collapse also injured eight others, including construction workers and passersby seeking shelter during early morning rainfall. The victims are currently receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
