Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has directed officials of Local Government and Local Government Education Authorities to immediately return ₦30,000 in Sallah gifts intended for state workers.
Addressing the issue at the Government House in Sokoto after the Hajj exercise, Governor Aliyu expressed disappointment over reports that financial officers, particularly at the local level, had withheld the funds from their staff.
“It is disheartening to learn that some individuals have deprived our workers of the stipends intended to support them during the festive season. Those responsible for this diversion must return the funds immediately, or they will face severe consequences. We will ensure that appropriate punitive measures are taken to serve as a deterrent,” Aliyu said.
Emphasizing his administration’s commitment to transparency and prudent management of public resources, Aliyu reiterated a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.
“Anyone who believes they can embezzle public funds without consequence is mistaken. This government is dedicated to accountability and serving the people diligently,” he affirmed.
Aliyu also called on agency heads to compile a list of affected workers and oversee the refund process. He urged continued support from the people of Sokoto State in fulfilling campaign promises and acknowledged the guidance of APC leader Sen. Aliyu Wamakko.
