The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has given the green light for the implementation of a new national minimum wage of ₦70,000 for civil servants in the state, effective from August 2024.
This decision was confirmed by Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Adamawa State, following a closed-door meeting with the governor at the Government House.
Governor Fintiri had previously committed to adopting the Federal Government’s new minimum wage directive during the 2024 May Day celebrations, ensuring that the state remains in alignment with national labor policies.
Comrade Fashe revealed that the implementation will follow the 2019 consequential adjustment template to determine the new salary percentages. The state’s Accountant General has been instructed to update the payroll accordingly, ensuring that the new wage structure is reflected in August salaries.
However, local government workers may experience a slight delay in receiving their adjusted salaries. Their new wages are expected to take effect in September, pending the completion of a review by the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission.
