The Plateau Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has detained five individuals accused of diverting two trucks carrying 70 metric tonnes of Indorama fertilizers.
The arrest was confirmed by NSCDC spokesperson, ASC Ruth Rimvyok, during a press briefing in Jos on Monday. She detailed that the suspects were apprehended in the Mararaban Jama’a area of Jos South Local Government Area following an intelligence report.
According to Ms. Rimvyok, the suspects allegedly diverted fertilizers that were intended for Lagos and Oyo states to Bauchi instead. “Acting on intelligence reports from our headquarters and the Office of the National Security Adviser, our personnel apprehended the five suspects on August 21 and 23, respectively,” she stated.
The suspects were caught with two trucks, each loaded with 35 metric tonnes of government-owned Indorama fertilizers designated for Lagos and Oyo but were rerouted to Bauchi. Ms. Rimvyok added that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for orchestrating the diversion.
One of the suspects, Abubakar Mohammed, denied any wrongdoing, claiming they were instructed to transport the fertilizers to Bauchi.
