Bauchi State has been identified as one of the regions most severely impacted by the ongoing floods in Nigeria, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). The country continues to experience heavy rainfall, leading to widespread destruction and displacement.
The latest reports from the Bauchi State House of Assembly highlight the worsening situation. Farmlands and homes have been destroyed, with the floods claiming lives and leaving many injured. The devastation has displaced a large number of residents, compounding the tragedy for affected communities.
Zakariya Sale, a member representing Azare Madangala Constituency, led the debate on the matter during a plenary session. He emphasized that the heavy rainfall has affected numerous villages, including Kajuru, Katsalle, and Dukuwarke.
Another lawmaker, Babayo Muhammad Akuyam, representing Hardawa Constituency, stated that over 100 households have been displaced in his region due to the floods.
During the session chaired by Speaker Abubakar Y. Suleiman, the House expressed condolences to those affected by the disaster. They also urged the executive arm of the government to provide immediate relief materials, relocate affected residents to safer areas, plant trees, and construct drainage systems in flood-prone regions.
The Assembly’s call for urgent intervention comes as Bauchi faces one of the most severe flood crises in recent years.
