After a week of intense scrutiny for some and brief introductions for others, the Senate has concluded the screening process for 45 out of the 48 ministerial nominees presented by President Bola Tinubu. These nominees have been confirmed as cabinet members.
During a series of voice votes, Senate President Godswill Akpabio confirmed the nominations, while three nominees – Nasir El-Rufai, Stella Okotete (Delta State), and Abubakar Danladi (Taraba State) – are still undergoing security clearance.
This confirmation follows President Tinubu’s transmission of a 28-member list to the Senate for approval on July 27. The screening process involved notable figures such as Nyesom Wike, Abubakar Kyari, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, and others.
Further screenings took place over the course of the week, including former governors Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna) and Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), as well as various other nominees.
President Tinubu later submitted a supplementary list of 19 additional nominees, with some changes made to the original list. Notably, the nomination of Maryam Shetty was withdrawn and replaced by Festus Keyamo and Mariya Mahmoud.
The comprehensive screening exercise concluded today with the final screening of Mahmoud and Keyamo. The remaining three nominees are awaiting clearance before their confirmation.
