Zamfara: Bakeries Forced To Close Due To Surging Material Costs – Usman

The Association of Bread Sellers in Zamfara State has raised an alarm regarding the sharp increase in the prices of essential baking materials, such as flour and other ingredients. This rise has resulted in the closure of numerous confectionery establishments across the state.

Alhaji Yusuf Usman, the State Chairman of the association and also the North West Zonal Secretary, expressed his concern during an interview with journalists in Gusau, the state capital. Usman conveyed his distress over the soaring costs of confectioneries, which have now become unaffordable.

Usman went on to highlight that several bread and confectionery businesses have been forced to shut down due to the exorbitant prices of vital baking supplies.

“The ongoing escalation of commodity prices since 2016 has left us with no choice but to either decrease our production quantities or cease production altogether,” he added.

In an earnest plea, Usman called upon the Federal Government to step in and provide assistance to ensure the survival of their businesses before the situation reaches an intolerable level.
