In yet another tragic incident, armed bandits targeted the headquarters of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State early on Monday. The attack resulted in the loss of one life and the abduction of seven individuals.
According to eyewitnesses, the armed bandits entered Bungudu town with a display of lethal weaponry, causing panic among residents. Tragically, one person lost their life due to the indiscriminate gunfire.
Among the abducted are notable figures, including the son of the Emir of Bungudu, Abdulrahman Hassan, and Abubakar S/Fada Bungudu, a former State Programme Officer of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The frequency of these distressing attacks on the local government headquarters has deeply troubled residents like Ishaq Bungudu. Despite its proximity to the state capital, Gusau, the town remains vulnerable, prompting urgent pleas for enhanced security measures.
Ishaq Bungudu highlighted the pressing need for the State Governor, Dauda Lawal, to promptly appoint security aides. He emphasized, “Given the near-daily attacks we face, it is imperative that the governor ensures the presence of security aides. Having a designated point of contact during times of distress is vital for our safety and well-being.”
The source of these recurrent assaults seems to be centered around a bandits’ enclave situated near Nahuche community en route to Karakai. The persistence of this hideout raises questions about the effectiveness of security agencies in dismantling the criminal operation.
Bungudu Local Government Headquarters, located approximately 21 kilometers from the state capital, Gusau, has experienced a series of tragic events. Last month, the loss of four policemen occurred within the same local government, followed by another officer falling victim to a separate attack just a few days ago.
Efforts to reach ASP Yazid Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, proved unsuccessful as repeated calls went unanswered.
