Here we go

Dr Tijjani Salihu Shinkafi originates from Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara State. He was born to the family of Liman (Imams) of Shinkafi, particularly his father was late Alh Salihu Ammani. He started his Quranic education from his home during his early childhood days (you can know more about him here

After attaining about six years of age Tijjani was enrolled by his father at Magaji Dango Model Primary School Shinkafi in 1976 and completed in 1992 and immediately joined Government Science Secondary School Shinkafi until 1998 where he obtained a Senior Secondary School leaving certificate from the West African Examination Council.

In the year 2000, Tijjani had a passion to study medicine and joined the matriculation program of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. After completing the program although he had gotten the minimum marks for MBBS however he was not given MBBS he was admitted to Biochemistry. After completing the first degree in Biochemistry in 2005 he went to India (Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi) where he completed MSc Degree in Biochemistry under the sponsorship of Zamfara State Government, Nigeria in 2008. Before Tijjani completed his MSc Degree in 2010, he had already started searching for another scholarship (foreign scholarship) opportunity for PhD. Luckily in 2011; he was awarded a prestigious scholarship of the Government of India (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) where he enrolled for PhD in Biochemistry in 2012. Just before Tijjani travelled for PhD he got appointed to teach by several Universities in Nigeria including Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, Umaru Musa Yardua University Katsina and Federal University Dutsinma among others besides an appointment he secured with a company that provides services to Nigeria (please click HERE which is based in Noida, India (ACL Wireless ltd).

Tijjani, a successful academic picked the appointment of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto in between his PhD program (late 2012) after completing compulsory one-year coursework for his PhD with the support of his Supervisor Prof Shakir Ali. He defended his thesis titled IDENTIFICATION OF ACTIVE PRINCIPLE FROM TRADITIONAL ANTI-DIABETIC HERBS USED IN NIGERIA AND EVALUATION OF THE ACTIVITY AND EFFICACY IN SILICO AND IN VIVO in July 2017 without a single correction.

Tijjani has several papers of international repute to his credit besides presenting his work at the international level.

After the PhD despite the nature of his job and other commitments, Tijjani spare time to provide guidance and community services to students (including the ex-students) and to his people in Zamfara State in addition to a lot of Newspaper articles (columnists with the Daily Trust, a highly regarded Newspaper in Nigeria) coming from him regularly. As a result of his activities, Tijjani founded a civil society organisation named ‘Orphans and Less Privileged Empowerment Foundation’ (OLPEF) that is looking after the youth (orphans and less privileged) in order to support the educational empowerment of these disadvantaged group of people and to support the government in its mission to curve the menace of illiteracy such as kidnappings and banditry (please visit HERE).

The foundation has so far achieved the following in less than six months from its inception

OLPEF (ORPHANS AND LESS PRIVILEGED EMPOWERMENT FOUNDATION) is unique in the sense that it focuses on the vulnerable group (such as the orphans and less privileged) of people in Zamfara State.
The main reason for its establishment is to empower these vulnerable people to become independent by acquiring skills and knowledge.

Because of the vulnerability of these groups of people (ORPHANS AND LESS PRIVILEGED), there is the need to empower them. They can easily be recruited to use their talents against society. Not long ago Zamfara State suffered from arm Banditry that brought about economic hardships and loss of lives and properties in the State

Successes recorded so far

1. OLPEF has settled the registration fees of twelve students of Shinkafi LGA studying at SOKOTO STATE UNIVERSITY who were unable to continue with their programs due to an abrupt hike in the registration fees by the management of the University. The money paid was N1, 135,000 (one million one hundred and thirty-five thousand naira) for the twelve students
2. Successful screening and identification of those in dire need of going to tertiary institutions from among the orphans and less privileged from Shinkafi. They were taken to AGPT Mafara (1 student) and CoE Maru (8 students) and their registration, as well as accommodation fees, have been settled by the OLPEF. Three people later declined the CoE offers and wouldn’t want to become teachers now they missed the N10, 000 allowances provided to their friends by the LG Council
3. OLPEF has successfully screened and identified unskilled or unemployed SSCE, Diploma, NCE, HND and BSc holders including married and unmarried women from Shinkafi LGA for training by ITF and Technology Incubation Center inshaa Allah immediately after the COVID – 19 pandemic
4. OLPEF has gotten scholarship of N10000 (ten thousand naira) to each of the orphans and less privileged sponsored by the Foundation to AGPT Mafara and CoE Maru from Shinkafi LG Council with the support of the Hon Chairman Alh Muhammad Sani Galadi. Payment commenced last month
5. OLPEF has gotten additional slots of ten (10) scholarship opportunities from the local Government Chairman of Shinkafi LGA to AGPT Mafara (special admission) the application forms are with me we shall conduct an aptitude test for those screened. We will select the best for professional courses such as engineering after the pandemic

6. OLPEF bought a disable cycle for one of the orphans who is a disabled person to enable him to attend his lecturers smoothly
7. OLPEF has also met with the NYSC state Coordinator and submitted a request to post NYSC corps members to Shinkafi. Since the issue of kidnapping escalated in the past, NYSC stopped sending corps members to Shinkafi. The coordinator has promised to send them from the next batch inshaa Allah
8. OLPEF has in conjunction with MSS Shinkafi started extra moral classes at GSSS Shinkafi for the final year students of all the secondary schools in Shinkafi with a view to preparing them for a journey to tertiary institutions.

Tijjani is currently the pioneer Chairman of Government Science Secondary School Shinkafi Old Boys Association. Along with his cabinet, Tijjani successfully organized the first of its kind reunion and 50th Anniversary celebration of the school in January 2020 which was attended by a remarkably large number of old boys from all walks of life including the former Executive Governor of Zamfara State Alh Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi and his Deputy Alh Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad. Other dignitaries that graced the occasion were the first Head boy of the School, Alh Sulaiman Alhaji Muhammad Kaura Namoda and Alh Muhammad Kudu Abubakar of NTA Headquarters Abuja and Alh Abubakar Sarkin Baki Shinkafi, Bursar Federal University Gusau (please watch the video HERE)

His hobbies are offering services to humanity and that is why he was identified and recognized by his emirate council that recently conferred him with a traditional title ‘UBAN MARAYUN MAI MARTABA SARKIN GABAS SHINKAFI’ that is the father of all orphans and less privileged of the entire Shinkafi LGA. He looks forward to becoming that of Zamfara State and Nigeria through his activities. Particularly, he Tijjani has an interest in empowering women and supporting their education (please see HERE) in addition to orphans and less privileged youth. He also loves travelling and meeting new people

Tijjani is happily married with four children
