Mentorship And Career Guidance in Nigeria (MECAGIN) Is The Latest Initiative At The Moment

In this, we as volunteer lecturers have decided to take a little out of our busy life some time to provide scientific guidance on research, academic and career choice to teeming youths with interests in postgraduate studies or employment opportunities in Nigeria. This is with the aim to train the future leaders who will likely replace us in the near future. The issue of mentorship to young scholars in Nigeria has been disturbing me to an extent I wrote and published a paper particularly on that (please see It is therefore necessary for us to come together as established academics in Nigeria to provide guidance to our younger ones.

Well have since opened two WhatsApp accounts for that purpose.

We have categorised the Mentoring platforms into two

1. Graduate (BSc holders aspiring for MSc)

2. PhD (those with MSc degree looking for PhD opportunity)

At the moment I have sourced some Scholars who have distinguished themselves in various fields such as Biological, Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences to start with. When the need arise we will extend it to others disciplines inshaa Allah.

1. Dr Tijjani Salihu Shinkafi (PhD Biochemistry, New Delhi)
2. Dr Shamsudeen Umar Dandare (PhD Biochemistry, UK)
3. Dr Aliyu Ibrahim Dabai (PhD Microbiology, UK)
4. Dr Nafiu Aminu (PhD Pharmaceutics, Malaysia)
5. Dr Amina Yusuf Jega (PhD Pharmaceutical Chemistry, ABU Zaria)

A special attention will be given to female candidates. Dr Amina Jega will be guiding and Motivating the young girls and married women in the groups. Earlier I wrote an article on girl child education in Northern Nigeria (please see

Inshaa Allah regularly we will be inviting eminent Scholars from across the globe online to interact with the participants. With this I like to call upon anyone with a PhD degree and teach or conduct research anywhere in the world to join us on board to guide our friends, colleagues and students in Nigeria to make them as competitive as their counterparts in the rest part of the world

For your information especially those who are for careers opportunities here. I have sourced a very senior military officer who is also currently pursuing PhD in Malaysia (a former lecturer of computer science at AQALAM Katsina to guide you. He is Zaharadden Muhammad Haruna (Ya Alhaj) (Captain in the Nigerian Army/Lecturer II

The rules of house are
May I quickly draft the rules of engagement here?
I believe we are matured enough to abide by them.

1. No personal attack to anyone including the tutors
2. Sharing of stuffs related to academic and research is allowed but religious, cultural or whatever is forbidden strictly. The group is for all sects in Nigeria
3. Women should be respected. They will be given some emphasis
4. Unnecessary arguments and interactions not related to the purpose of the group is also forbidden
Removal from the group and will be allowed to return only with apology (written)

We hope to migrate to telegram when the classes size increase beyond WhatsApp

Request for members of Mentorship and Career Guidance in Nigeria to create a telegram account

Considering the number of people trooping into the groups. I’m considering collapsing the two groups into one. I have created a telegram account with the name MECAGIN.

I want to request everyone here to download and create a telegram account quickly. We shall in due course move there. The capacity of WhatsApp is just 250 people while telegram can take up to 200,000 people.

So far I’m the Founder and Chairman of Orphans and Less Privileged Empowerment Foundation (OLPEF)
GSSS Shinkafi Old Boys Association (SHOBA)
Zamfara North Senatorial Zone Development Forum (ZANSDEF)
And now Mentorship and Career Guidance in Nigeria (MECAGIN)
In addition to Coalition of Concerns Indigenes of Sokoto Zamfara and Kebbi States and
