Zamfara Owes Daily Trust, Leadership, Others N8m Liabilities.

The Special Project Manager of the Daily Trust newspaper in charge of Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara axis, AbdulFataye AbdusSalami, has appealed to Governor Matawalle of Zamfara State to pay over N8 million naira to some national dailies including Daily Trust being part of liabilities inherited from the immediate past administration.

AbdusSalami, who made the disclosure in a press conference Wednesday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat Gusau Zamfara State capital, said the immediate past administration of former Governor Yari had for several occasions signed for placement of advertisements by the number of affected national dailies.

He further recalled that, the permission for the unsettled sponsored publications by the then Zamfara State government, had started from the year 2018 through former Special Adviser to the former Governor Yari, on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communication, Ibrahim Magaji Dosara.

According to him, the affected national dailies apart from Daily Trust newspaper were, Leadership, Blueprint, The Authority, The Guardian newspapers and others which up till now were on struggles to secure the payments.

“I found it necessary to hold this press conference being only channel to communicate to the incumbent Governor, our demands for the payments of the stated amount being inherited from the immediate government by his administration.

“I learnt that formidable measures were laid by the protocols making it almost impossible to see Governor Matawalle, the development which informed the idea of using faster way of reaching him on the matter through use of media power.

“I am using this medium to communicate our demand to the Governor, that there is need to pay about N4 million owed to the Daily Trust newspaper in particular and over N4 million to other counterpart national dailies as these media organizations need such kind of payments to continue to serve the purpose”, AbdulFataye has pleaded.
