ZSUBEB Trains Primary Schools Pupils On Farming, Animal Rearing

Zamfara State Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has trained Primary Schools pupils from the 14 local government councils of the state on farming and animal rearing.

Zamfara State Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has trained Primary Schools pupils from the 14 local government councils of the state on farming and animal rearing under Agric Education Training Programme (AETP) with a view to acquire exposure to the biological processes of agriculture.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of education, Zainab Lawal Gummi during 2018-2019 agric show in Gusau Zamfara State capital, saying, the present administration of Governor Bello Natawalle was committed to make agricultural science more practice oriented and hands-on at basic education level.

Hajiya Zainab further informed that, the targeted policy was so in order to save the state from the social morass it has found itself due to inadequate employment opportunities amongst the teeming youths in the state.

“The Government of Bello Matawalle has demonstrated commitments to the provision of quality education as a panacea for combating insecurity by declaring state of emergency in education, in which, practical agriculture was given much emphasis so that learners can acquire entrepreneurship skills and become self-employed.

Speaking, the Zamfara Chairman SUBEB, Abubakar Aliyu Maradun, said the board had procured and distributed farm tools to 27 selected schools each in 2018 and 2019 for the grassroot implementation of the programme aimed at exposing learners in basic education schools to farming.

The Chairman further commended efforts of the State Government and the security agencies as they geared up in combating security challenges to extent farming activities is fast returning given opportunity for farmers amongst which were the teeming students engaged in farming activities.
