The Zamfara House of Assembly has successfully screened and approved 18 nominees put forward by Governor Dauda Lawal for the role of commissioners, according to a press release by the House’s Public Relations Officer, Malam Nasiru Biyabiki.
The 18 nominees were recently presented to the Seventh Assembly for confirmation.
During the Assembly’s plenary session in Gusau on Thursday, the screening took place and the following individuals were confirmed as Commissioners: Sule Adamu, Salisu Musa, Kabiru Birnin-Magaji, Yau Haruna-Bakura, Abdurrahman Tumbido, Lawali Barau, Nasiru Ibrahim, Tasiu Musa, Mannir Haidara, Capt. Bala Mairiga (retired), Abdul’aziz Sani (SAN), Ahmed Yandi, Wadatau Madawaki, Aisha Anka, Bello Auta, Abdulmalik Gajam, Mahmud Muhammad, and Dr Nafisa Maradun.
The process was initiated by Malam Bello Mazawaje (APC – Tsafe East), the Majority Leader of the House, who proposed the motion for the screening and confirmation of the nominees. This motion received support from the Minority Leader of the House, Malam Aliyu Ango (APC – Talata-Mafara South).
Mazawaje urged his colleagues to collectively consider setting aside House Order XV Rule 6 (6) of the Standing Orders to allow the nominees to be admitted into the Chamber for the screening process.
Subsequently, after thorough screening, all lawmakers reached a unanimous decision to confirm the 18 nominees, authorizing them to assume their roles as Commissioners and Members of the State Executive Council.
