HURIWA Calls For Tinubu’s Disqualification, Resignation Over Identity Theft

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has urgently called upon the Supreme Court of Nigeria to disqualify President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from office or compel his resignation in light of allegations surrounding identity theft and certificate forgery.

HURIWA issued this statement in a press release on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, following revelations that the academic records from South-West College, which Tinubu utilized to gain admission into Chicago State University (CSU), belonged to a woman.

The civil society group pointed to documents released by CSU to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who had contested Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential election in a US court. These documents indicated that Tinubu had enrolled as a female student under the name Bola Adekunle Tinubu.

HURIWA described this as a shocking and disgraceful case of identity theft and certificate forgery, which has cast Tinubu as a deceiver who has misled Nigerians for decades.

The human rights organization asserts that Tinubu lacks the moral and legal standing to continue occupying the highest office in the country, having allegedly violated both the constitution and electoral laws of Nigeria.

Additionally, HURIWA accuses Tinubu of involvement in other criminal activities, such as drug trafficking and money laundering, citing documents purportedly obtained from US authorities that link him to these offenses.

HURIWA calls upon the Supreme Court to act in the interest of justice and the preservation of the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process and democratic values. The group warns that failing to disqualify or prompt Tinubu’s resignation could lead to a loss of faith in Nigerian leadership and institutions, potentially sparking civil disobedience and mass protests to demand accountability.

The organization also implores Nigerians to rise up and reject Tinubu as their president, citing concerns that he poses a potential embarrassment and threat to Nigeria and its international reputation.”
