NYSC Requires NIN For Mandatory Registration

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has implemented the mandatory requirement of the National Identification Number (NIN) for its national service registration. The scheme emphasizes that the NIN will be a crucial element in mobilizing corps members for the upcoming year’s service.

The NYSC firmly states that prospective corps members lacking the NIN will not be eligible for national service mobilization.

In an official statement released by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, the NYSC stated: “Starting from the 2024 mobilization, all eligible prospective corps members are required to register for mobilization using their National Identification Numbers (NIN).”

This decision emerged from discussions during a meeting between the NYSC Management, led by Director General Brig.-Gen. Y. D. Ahmed, and the Management of the National Identification Management Commission, headed by Director General Abisoye Coker-Odusote in Abuja on Thursday.

Brig.-Gen. Ahmed highlighted that the collaboration with NIMC on corps mobilization would enhance the online registration process for the scheme. He acknowledged the effectiveness of the NYSC integrated system introduced in 2014 but emphasized the need for further improvements.

Coker-Odusote assured the commission’s preparedness for the collaboration, commending the NYSC mobilization protocols and the scheme’s efforts in shaping corps members for leadership responsibilities over its fifty years of operation.
