In a groundbreaking move aimed at revitalizing education infrastructure, the Katsina State Government has allocated over N4 billion to enhance 150 primary schools across the state. The initiative, spearheaded by Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda, marks a significant investment in the education sector. At the flag-off ceremony held at Shagumba Primary School in Batagarawa Local Government Area, Governor Radda emphasized the importance of the program, titled “Transforming Education System at State Level (TESS)”, in improving the quality of education and facilities in primary schools.
The selection criteria for the beneficiary schools were meticulous, focusing on factors such as the extent of infrastructure decay, the number of students within the vicinity, and the availability of water, sanitation, and hygiene amenities. Governor Radda stressed the pivotal role of School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) in ensuring the effective utilization and management of the allocated funds. He urged these committees to exercise prudence and accountability in utilizing the funds for the betterment of the schools and their communities.
Furthermore, Governor Radda issued directives aimed at enhancing teacher attendance and performance. He mandated recently recruited public school teachers who rejected their initial postings to resign, enabling other qualified individuals to assume the positions. Additionally, he instructed education authorities to intensify efforts in monitoring teacher attendance and promptly report cases of absenteeism or insubordination. Governor Radda emphasized the importance of community involvement in monitoring school activities, encouraging stakeholders to actively participate in ensuring the success of the initiative.
The Coordinator of TESS, Binta Abdulmumini, highlighted the program’s potential to reintegrate numerous out-of-school children in Katsina State into the education system. The initiative signifies a bold step towards addressing educational challenges and fostering development in the state, reflecting the government’s commitment to prioritizing education and empowering future generations.
