JUST IN: Govrs Granted Additional ₦30bn Each to Alleviate Hardships – Akpabio

According to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, state governors across the nation have reportedly received an additional ₦30 billion from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to address the challenges of inflation and the high cost of food items. This allocation, separate from their regular allocations from the Federation Account, aims to assist in mitigating the ongoing economic difficulties.

Akpabio emphasized the importance of judicious utilization of these funds by the state governments to alleviate the burden of soaring food prices and other economic hardships faced by Nigerians. He urged governors to prioritize actions that ensure food availability and accessibility, highlighting the imperative for tangible results rather than mere promises.

Protests Against Rising Living Costs Alleged to be Sponsored

In light of recent protests in various parts of the country over the escalating prices of essential commodities, Akpabio suggested that some of these demonstrations may have been orchestrated by certain groups with ulterior motives. He noted that while acknowledging the concerns of the populace, it is essential to recognize the efforts made by both the Senate and the federal government to combat inflation and improve living conditions.

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin highlighted that Nigeria’s economic challenges are not isolated but part of a larger global phenomenon.
