In a successful operation, the police in Niger State thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Borgu LGA and rescued a female victim, while also neutralizing one suspect who attempted to pick up a ransom of ₦3 million from a businessman.
According to DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the police command’s Public Relations Officer, the operation unfolded after four suspected kidnappers threatened to abduct a businessman in Bako-Mission village, Pissa District of Borgu LGA, demanding ₦3 million within three days. Acting swiftly, the police tactical team, along with vigilante members led by the DPO of New-Bussa Div, mobilized to the specified location near Tunga-Umoru village.
Engaging the kidnappers in a gun battle, the team successfully rescued the victim unharmed and neutralized one of the suspects, recovering an AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine. Although other members of the gang managed to escape with gunshot injuries, efforts are underway to apprehend them.
The operation restored public confidence in the area and brought stability to the region.
