In Zamfara State, bandits have claimed the lives of Alhaji Shafiu Abubakar, a prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and two others. The tragic incident occurred along Danbaza junction and Maradun town, the administrative center of Maradun local government area.
The bandits’ relentless assaults on motorists along the 10km stretch leading to Maradun town have resulted in fatalities and abductions. During the recent attack, the bandits strategically blocked the road with large stones, ensnaring unsuspecting motorists en route to Maradun town.
Trapped vehicles became targets as the bandits indiscriminately opened fire on passengers, claiming the lives of the PDP chieftain, two unidentified individuals, and leaving three others critically wounded.
Alhaji Shafiu Abubakar’s aspirations to vie for the chairmanship seat of the Maradun local government area council in the upcoming LGA elections were tragically cut short by this heinous act.
Despite the presence of military and mobile police personnel in the area, concerns persist regarding the unabated attacks in the region. Local residents are demanding decisive measures against the bandits, particularly given Maradun’s significance as the hometown of Bello Matawalle, the current Minister of State for Defence.
