Miyetti Allah Speaks Out Against Sokoto Govt’s Plan to Limit Sultan’s Authority

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has called for the protection and preservation of the Sultanate institution in Nigeria, emphasizing its historical and cultural significance. Alhaji Baba Othman-Ngelzarma, the National President of MACBAN, issued a statement on Saturday in Abuja, underscoring the importance of safeguarding this institution, which has been in existence for over two centuries.

Othman-Ngelzarma criticized politicians for allegedly attempting to undermine the authority of the Sultan, who is a symbol of Islamic leadership in the country. He urged political figures to focus on promoting good governance rather than engaging in activities that could destabilize the Sultanate.

In his statement, Othman-Ngelzarma expressed concerns over media reports suggesting that the Sokoto State Government might be planning to diminish the powers of Sultan Alhaji Saad Abubakar III. He called on the Sokoto State Government, particularly the legislature, to act prudently and ensure the preservation of the Sultanate, which embodies a significant ideological heritage.

“We believe protecting and preserving the institution of the Sultanate is a cardinal responsibility of every right-thinking personality in the country,” Othman-Ngelzarma stated. He reaffirmed MACBAN’s firm support for the Sultan, highlighting the Sultan’s role in promoting justice, equity, and tolerance among Nigeria’s diverse groups.

Othman-Ngelzarma praised the Sultan for his efforts to foster religious and ethnic harmony, citing his military background, commitment to truth, and advocacy for the poor and underprivileged as exemplary qualities for leaders to emulate.
