ZSUBEB Awards Multi-Billion Naira Contracts to Enhance Education in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB), led by Prof. Nasir Garba Anka Makaman Sokoto South, has awarded contracts worth billions of Naira aimed at enhancing education in the state. The formal presentation ceremony for these contracts took place recently at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Gusau, Zamfara State.

In a statement issued by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Musa Maizare, the event was graced by several dignitaries, including the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, and other top government officials.

During the ceremony, Prof. Nasir Garba Anka, Executive Chairman of ZSUBEB, announced that the board received a total of ₦6,309,237,105.35 as a BESDA Reward for 2023. Additionally, a Matching Grant from UBEC/SUBEB for the 1st to 4th Quarters, supplemented by contributions from the state government under Governor Dauda Lawal, amounted to ₦2,791,569,918.25.

Looking ahead to 2024, ZSUBEB has been allocated a Matching Grant of ₦3,554,642,584.46 from UBEC, which will be matched by the State Government, bringing the total Matching Grant for 2024 to an impressive ₦7,109,285,168.92. These funds are designated to support initiatives aimed at elevating the standard of education across Zamfara State.

Prof. Anka also highlighted the board’s achievements in the Teachers Management Information System (TMIS), where ZSUBEB was recognized as second nationwide and first in Northern Nigeria for its performance in the gifted student examination. This accolade underscores the significant progress made in improving educational quality and management in the state.

In terms of infrastructure, ZSUBEB has ambitious plans, including the construction of 14 blocks of VIP toilets, 6 playrooms for Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD), 4 blocks with two classrooms, offices, and stores, 1 safe school, 13 blocks with three classrooms, offices, and stores, and 8 perimeter wall fences. Additionally, various renovations are scheduled across the state.

Prof. Anka commended the Zamfara State government, under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal, for its commitment to improving education in the state. The investments in educational infrastructure and initiatives are expected to significantly enhance the quality of education and facilities across Zamfara.

He expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests, including the Executive Governor, Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Commissioners, Special Advisers, the press, and other attendees for their support and dedication. Prof. Anka reiterated the board’s commitment to further improving education in Zamfara State and called for continued cooperation from all stakeholders to achieve this goal.

The ceremony concluded with Governor Dauda Lawal presenting certificates of contract to various indigenous contractors from across the fourteen local government areas in the state.
