Thousands of Muslim faithful gathered in Ardo Kola Local Government Area (LGA) of Taraba State on Thursday in a massive prayer session aimed at seeking divine intervention against the challenges of hunger, insecurity, and bad governance plaguing the region.
The event, organized by local religious leaders and community groups, saw an unprecedented turnout as men, women, and children gathered at the central prayer ground. Clad in traditional attire and fervent in their prayers, the crowd recited verses from the Quran and offered supplications to Allah for relief from the hardships that have increasingly affected their lives.
In recent years, Taraba State, like many parts of Nigeria, has faced significant challenges. The economic situation has worsened, leading to widespread hunger and poverty. Additionally, the rise in insecurity, including banditry, kidnappings, and communal clashes, has left many communities in a state of fear and uncertainty. The people of Ardo Kola, like others across the country, have also expressed frustration over what they perceive as poor governance, which they believe has exacerbated their difficulties.
Local religious leaders who spoke at the event emphasized the importance of prayer in seeking divine intervention, but they also called on the government to take more decisive actions to address the root causes of these issues. They urged leaders at all levels to fulfill their responsibilities, provide security, and implement policies that would alleviate the suffering of the people.
“We have come together today, united in our faith and in our struggle, to ask for Allah’s mercy,” said Imam Abdulrahman Sani, one of the leading clerics at the gathering. “But we also call on our leaders to remember their duty to the people. Our communities are suffering, and it is time for those in power to act.”
The prayer session in Ardo Kola is one of several similar events that have been held across the region in recent months, reflecting the growing desperation among the populace as they seek solutions to the multifaceted crises they face.
As the prayers concluded, participants expressed hope that their supplications would bring about positive change, both through divine intervention and a renewed commitment from the nation’s leaders to address the pressing issues of hunger, insecurity, and governance.
