Speed Limit Devices Now Mandatory: FRSC to Seize Non-Compliant Vehicles

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State has announced plans to begin arresting drivers and impounding vehicles without speed limit devices. This initiative aims to curb road accidents attributed to speeding.

FRSC Sector Commander, Joyce Alexander, disclosed this during a press conference in Awka on Friday. She highlighted that most road accidents in the state were due to speed violations, often leading to tyre bursts and loss of vehicle control.

According to Ms. Alexander, reckless speeding, vehicle overloading, and the indiscriminate transportation of passengers, animals, and goods have made stricter enforcement necessary.

“The new Corps Marshal’s policy is to overhaul operations for improved performance in Anambra. We aim to reduce road crashes and enforce traffic rules more effectively,” she stated.

She further explained that while motorists had been directed to install speed limit devices, many have failed to comply. As a result, the FRSC will begin issuing fines and will not release impounded vehicles until the devices are installed.

To ensure smooth traffic flow during the upcoming ‘Ember’ months, Ms. Alexander announced plans to form a joint task force in collaboration with other security agencies. This team will work to decongest roads and promote safer driving practices.

Additionally, the FRSC will partner with the media to raise public awareness about traffic regulations. Efforts will also be made to collaborate with the state government to improve road conditions by removing obstructions and installing proper road signage.

“Our goal is to ensure that road users arrive at their destinations safely,” she concluded.

Deputy Corps Commander, Jude Nnamani, urged the public to cooperate with the FRSC in reducing road accidents across Anambra State.
