Zamfara State has allocated 50 hectares of land, free of charge, to support the Federal Government’s housing initiatives. This development was announced during a high-level meeting between Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Dauda Lawal, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa.
In his opening remarks, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, commended the collaboration between the state and the federal government, highlighting the importance of such partnerships in addressing critical issues. He expressed appreciation for Governor Lawal’s commitment to resolving Zamfara’s challenges, particularly in security and infrastructure.
Governor Lawal, in response, expressed gratitude for the swift arrangements leading to the meeting and stressed the pressing challenges facing the state. He noted that Zamfara’s internal revenue stood at just ₦90 million when he assumed office, underscoring the scale of the task ahead. The governor emphasised his administration’s determination to tackle insecurity, healthcare, and educational shortfalls.
Lawal also urged the Ministry of Housing to prioritise Zamfara in its future initiatives, drawing attention to the dilapidated structures near the Federal University in Gusau that require urgent intervention.
Minister Dangiwa extended his condolences over the recent loss of lives in Zamfara due to banditry, expressing solidarity with the state. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to development and praised the state’s contribution of land for the housing projects.
“I recognise the generous provision of 50 hectares for our initiatives and assure you that we are fully committed to making this partnership successful,” Dangiwa said.
He also unveiled plans to build 500 housing units in Zamfara over the next year, aimed at improving living conditions for the state’s residents.
Governor Lawal reiterated the importance of addressing Zamfara’s infrastructure needs, while noting recent improvements in agriculture and reductions in insecurity. He expressed optimism for continued cooperation with the federal ministry, emphasising that these joint efforts were critical to the well-being of the people of Zamfara.
