The Zamfara chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has announced that 11 out of Nigeria’s 18 registered political parties will participate in the upcoming local government elections in Zamfara State, scheduled for November 16.
IPAC’s state chairman, Isah Moriki, shared this information during a press briefing in Gusau on Tuesday. According to Moriki, the All Progressives Congress (APC), one of the main opposition parties in Zamfara, has filed a case with the Federal High Court’s Zamfara Division, challenging the State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC) over alleged irregularities in the electoral process.
Moriki confirmed that IPAC members, representing 11 political parties, have finalized their plans to participate in the election.
“Recently, we had a meeting with ZASIEC, where the commission’s chairman briefed us on the preparations for the November 16 polls. The commission has assured us of its commitment to conducting credible elections for the local governments,” Moriki stated.
The IPAC leadership, he said, is confident in the commission’s arrangements for the election and believes ZASIEC has fulfilled the legal requirements necessary to proceed.
The 11 political parties set to participate include the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), Young Progressive Party (YPP), Alliance Peoples Movement (APM), and All Peoples Party (APP). Other parties involved are the African Action Congress (AAC), Labour Party (LP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Youth Party (YP).
“All of the listed parties have completed the legal processes required to contest the elections,” Moriki added, noting that each party has obtained the necessary chairmanship and councillorship nomination forms for their candidates.
Moriki urged Zamfara residents to remain calm and support the commission’s efforts to ensure peaceful and transparent elections on November 16.
