Smart DNA, a prominent DNA testing center in Lagos, Nigeria, recently released a comprehensive analysis of DNA tests conducted between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023. This report sheds light on DNA testing trends in Nigeria and reveals significant findings.
One of the most striking revelations is that over 25% of the tested men in Nigeria were not the biological fathers of the children they questioned paternity for. To be precise, 26.12% of the tests yielded negative results, while 73.88% confirmed paternity.
The report also highlights the geographical distribution of these tests, with Lagos accounting for the highest percentage at 82.89%, followed by Oyo (3.29%), Ogun (3.07%), FCT (2.63%), and Rivers (2.41%). This concentration in Lagos can be attributed to the location of Smart DNA’s office, the financial capabilities of the state’s residents, and its high population density.
In summary, Smart DNA’s report reveals a significant percentage of non-biological fathers among those tested in Nigeria, with a notable concentration of tests in Lagos.
