The Zamfara State government is actively working to revamp the education sector, with a strong focus on enhancing the quality and welfare of teachers across the state.
This commitment was conveyed by the Commissioner of Education, Science, and Technology, Malan Wadatau Madawaki, during an interview at his office in Gusau, where he emphasized the pivotal role of education in societal development. He noted that without quality education, societal progress is hindered, and any development achieved falls short of expectations.
In light of this, the state government, under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal, has devised a series of incentives for teachers, which will be implemented soon. The Commissioner outlined some of these measures, stating, “Our government plans to introduce a new minimum wage for teachers in Zamfara, designed to attract more individuals to the teaching profession. Additionally, professional allowances will be provided to science teachers, and hardship allowances will be granted to educators serving in rural areas. All entitled benefits for teachers in the state will be duly disbursed.”
The Commissioner also revealed the state’s efforts to collaborate with organizations such as NIPA, NTI, UBEC, and international bodies to facilitate training and retraining programs for teachers. These initiatives aim to motivate educators and enhance their effectiveness in delivering quality education.
In a related development, the Commissioner of Education announced that his ministry has identified twenty boarding schools, which will soon commence activities. He mentioned that they have sought advice from security agencies regarding the safety of these schools and are awaiting a positive response. Furthermore, the state has revamped the secondary school system by introducing skills acquisition programs for students, ensuring they have meaningful opportunities after completing their final exams.
He concluded by highlighting the government’s commitment to education, noting that outstanding NECO fees from 2019 to 2023 for students in the state have been paid, among other initiatives.
