In an astonishing turn of events, Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has vehemently refuted allegations of his purported demand for N20 billion monthly and contracts from the Rivers State government during his involvement in the 2023 governorship election.

Mr. Wike made it abundantly clear that the ongoing political turmoil between him and Governor Fubara transcends financial interests. Wike firmly asserted that, while vigorously advocating for Siminalayi Fubara’s victory in the last gubernatorial election in Rivers State, no one had accused him of making exorbitant financial demands or seeking personal benefits from the government. He passionately elaborated on his stance, stating, “So, feel free to accuse me from here to eternity; I would not lose a wink of sleep because, as far as I’m concerned, the right thing must be done. We all need to maintain our political relevance and protect our political structures. After all, who would allow themselves to be ousted without a fight? Everyone has a base, isn’t that the truth? If someone takes away my base, does that render me politically irrelevant?”
This astounding repudiation follows Wike’s prior allegations against Governor Fubara, accusing him of associating with his political adversaries following his assumption of office.
Speaking to members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum in Abuja, Wike emphatically denounced any suggestion that their feud is financially motivated, underscoring his recent transition from the office of the Rivers State governor to his current position as the Federal Capital Territory Minister.
