A prominent politician within the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State, MZ Anka, has passed away after a brief illness.
An influential figure, MZ Anka played a pivotal role in shaping the PDP in the country. Notably, he made history as the first PDP candidate for the governorship in Zamfara state after the restoration of democracy in 1999. During that election, he contested against Ahmad Sani Yariman Bakura who runed under the platform of the All People Party (APP), Yarima emerging victorious and becoming the inaugural civilian governor of Zamfara state after the election which hold on January 9, 1999.
MZ Anka, a former minister in the government of the late General Sani Abacha and a former Ambassador to Nigeria, played a crucial role in the establishment of Zamfara state during the military rule of Sani Abacha in 1996.
Until his passing, MZ Anka served as the chairman of the Zamfara State Elders Forum. He was also the father of the current Zamfara State Health Commissioner, Dr. Zainab Anka.
Recognized for his contributions, MZ Anka received praise from both PDP members and opposition political parties, who acknowledged his character, wisdom, and commitment to ideals.
A prayer for Ambassador MZ Anka is scheduled to take place today at 2:00 pm at Jummua Mosque of Bafarawa Institute Sokoto. May he be rewarded with Jannatul Firdausi.
