The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has firmly rejected the three-week extension request made by Sadiya Umar-Farouq, the former Minister. Umar-Farouq had sought the extension to attend to her health before appearing for the commission’s investigation, as conveyed through her counsel on Wednesday.
However, the EFCC, under the leadership of Abdulrasheed Bawa, has taken a tough stance, refusing to delay the investigation for three weeks. Instead, they have given the ex-minister a tight deadline of three days to appear before their team or risk being declared wanted.
A source revealed that the EFCC, under its current system, allows individuals to appear for questioning and return home the same day. The commission remains prepared for Umar-Farouq’s appearance and has emphasized that even if medical assistance is required, they will provide access to their first-class facilities.
The unfolding situation puts Sadiya Umar-Farouq in a challenging position, as the EFCC intensifies its efforts to move forward with the investigation within a compressed timeframe.
