A family court in Ibadan, Oyo State, has issued an order for the remand of Michael Ayinde, 51, and his son, Abiola, 19, on charges of raping Ayinde’s daughter and Abiola’s sister.
Magistrate Mrs. O. O. Ogunkanmi presided over the case and directed the remand of the defendants at the Abolongo Correctional Facility in Oyo town. The magistrate refrained from entertaining the pleas of the accused, emphasizing their temporary detention pending legal advice from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The alleged incidents occurred at the family’s residence in the Agboti Olosan area, Alakia, Ibadan. The father and son, identified as the complainant’s older brother and father, are accused of committing the offenses against the 17-year-old girl.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Gbemisola Adedeji, informed the court that between 2021 and December 2023, Abiola Ayinde engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with his younger sister, leading to her alleged pregnancy without consent.
Simultaneously, during the same period, Michael Ayinde purportedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of his 17-year-old daughter without her consent. The charges levied against them contravene Section 34 of the Oyo State Child Rights Law, 2006.
The case has been adjourned until February 21 for mention, as the court awaits legal guidance from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
