In a poignant display of desperation, residents of Tunburku village in Kidandan ward, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, took to the streets in protest against the relentless banditry and security challenges besieging their community. The diverse group of protesters, spanning across generations, embarked on a march to the Zazzau Emirate Palace in Zaria, seeking respite from the escalating turmoil caused by criminal elements in the region.
Expressing the gravity of their concerns, Malam Yusuf Jibrin, the leader of the protesters, voiced the community’s anxiety over the pervasive activities of bandits and other criminal elements. He emphasized that banditry had not only paralyzed agricultural and economic activities but had also significantly jeopardized the overall peace and security of the area. Amiru Abubakar, a resident of Tunburku, added that the bandits operated with impunity, killing and abducting people at will. In some instances where farming was allowed, it came at the exorbitant cost of hefty ransoms, leaving many in the village without enough food to eat.
In response to the distressing pleas, Emir of Zazzau, Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamali, commiserated with the community, acknowledging the consistent reports from the village head of Kidandan about the dire situation in the area. Expressing concern over the security situation around Zaria, he assured the residents that their grievances would be considered seriously. The emotional appeal of the residents and the march to the palace underscore the urgency for intervention to address the pressing security crisis in Tunburku and its surrounding regions.
