ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, criticizes the Federal Government’s persistence in utilizing the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS) to disburse lecturers’ salaries, despite promises to withdraw tertiary institutions from the platform.
Osodeke highlights that the February salary was processed through IPPIS, contrary to the FG’s announcement in December 2023, exempting universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education from the system.
Despite government assurances, including a 35% salary increase announced in September 2023 and commitments to address withheld salaries from the 2022 national strike, ASUU contends that none of their demands have been met.
Osodeke expresses disappointment at the lack of official communication from the FG, emphasizing the stagnant situation.
He suggests that ASUU members may resort to strike action to push for their demands, underscoring the urgency for the government to fulfill its agreements. ASUU plans to release a press statement soon to communicate its stance.
