The clashes, which commenced on Thursday night and intensified into Friday morning, tragically claimed the life of a young man, further exacerbating tensions between the two ethnic groups.
According to reports from Daily Trust, the conflict reportedly erupted when a Yoruba individual, identified as Abbey, intervened in a dispute between two Hausa men. Tragically, during Abbey’s intervention, he was allegedly stabbed by an unidentified assailant, sustaining fatal injuries.
The devastating loss of Abbey prompted a retaliatory assault between Yoruba and Hausa residents in the vicinity, resulting in widespread destruction of property. Notably, food items such as peppers, onions, and other commodities sold by Hausa traders in the Oluwole Market bore the brunt of the violence.
The ensuing clashes paralyzed commercial activities in the area, causing significant disruption and alarm among local inhabitants. Eyewitnesses recounted a heightened police presence in the market vicinity, with patrol vans striving to contain the situation and restore order amidst escalating tensions.
